QDo I need a visa to study in Canada?A
If you plan to study for 6 months or longer, you will need to apply for a study permit before coming to Canada. If you plan to study less than 6 months, you can study on a visitor’s visa or an ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization), depending on your country of citizenship. QHow do I apply for a visa?A
Please contact the nearest Canadian Visa Office or Canada Visa Application Centre. Visa Offices and Visa Application Centres will have specific information and requirements that may need to be submitted with your application. You can use the Letter of Acceptance from International House Vancouver as supporting documentation for your application.

QWhat documents do I need to have ready when I arrive in Canada?A
Please be prepared to show these documents when you arrive in Canada:
・A valid passport
・Study Permit or Temporary Resident Visa (if applicable)
・Your Letter of Acceptance
・A return airline ticket
・Proof of sufficient funds to live in Canada
・Proof of accommodation
(a confirmation letter from International House Vancouver for homestay or student house if you have this)
QHow old do you have to be to go to pubs and night clubs in Vancouver?A
The minimum age for drinking and smoking in Vancouver is 19. ID is strictly checked in Vancouver clubs.
QWhen should I book my course?A
You should book your course as far in advance as possible. If you need to apply for a visa before coming to Canada, you can check processing wait times.
International House Vancouver accepts last minute bookings, but we do require at least 2 weeks advance notice to place with our accommodation services.
QWhen do programs start?A
International House Vancouver accepts students to start every Monday (or first day of week in case of holiday). Please check our website for start dates for Cambridge Exam Preparation and English for Academic Purposes courses.
QHow much does a program cost?A
All International House Vancouver programs are priced on a weekly basis.The price depends on how many hours per week you study and how long your study period is. You can view our prices on our registration form or you can get a quote with our course pricer page.
QHow much do books and materials cost?A
International House Vancouver does not charge material fees. We charge a $50 deposit for textbooks that are used in class. If you return your textbook in good condition with no writing in it, we will return $45 per book to you. The textbook deposit must be paid in cash.
QHow can I find out my English level?A
On your first day at International House Vancouver, we administer an English placement exam to determine your level. If you would like to have an idea before coming to Vancouver you can take our online placement level test here.

QCan I change courses after booking?A
Yes, we allow students to change both core and elective classes for no fee, providing the courses are running and not full.
About Location and Facilities
QWhere is the school located?A
International House Vancouver is conveniently located in downtown Vancouver, in the International Village Mall, right next to the Stadium / Chinatown Skytrain station.
QWhat facilities are near the school?A
There are many great restaurant choices near the school, as well as pubs and bars. There is a movie theatre in our building and several art galleries. There are also many shops and banks within easy walking distance.
QCan I use my laptop or tablet in the school?A
Yes, we have full Wi-fi access available to our students to use throughout the school. If you don’t have yours with you, you can always use one of the computer terminals we have available for our students.
QHow is the weather in Vancouver?A
Vancouver has a moderate climate. It is warm and often sunny in the spring and summer. It is wet but not too cold in the fall and winter. The average high temperature in July is 22 °C and 7 °C in January.

QWhat qualifications and experience do teachers have?A
International House Vancouver teachers all have at least a bachelor’s degree and an internationally recognized TESOL certificate like the Cambridge CELTA. We have teachers from many different backgrounds with great teaching and life experience that they are eager to share with their students.
QDo you have staff who speak other languages?A
Yes, we can assist our students in over 12 languages. Please feel free to ask if you would like to correspond in your own language. We will do our best to ensure we have someone available who can speak to you directly or through email.
QHow are your faculty and staff reviewed?A
As an affiliate of the International House World Organization and a member of Languages Canada, our teachers and staff are regularly reviewed, and qualifications are checked. Both of these organizations are leaders in quality assurance.
QWhat kinds of accommodation do you offer?A
International House Vancouver offers both quality homestay and several student house options.
QWhen should I book accommodation with International House Vancouver?A
We recommend booking at least 2-4 weeks in advance. Student house beds are available on a first-come first-served basis, so space is limited. Since homestay can be very busy, espcecially during the peak months, please confirm your booking as soon as possible.
QAre meals included with the accommodation fee?A
Homestay includes breakfast, lunch and dinner. If you require any extra meals or special meal requests, these are not included in the fee. The student house does not include any meals or food.
QIs Wi-fi included with the accommodation?A
Yes, both our homestay families and our student houses provide access to in-home Wi-Fi.
QCan I easily change my accommodation?A
Using our accommodation service is similar to renting your own place. We require notice in order to make any changes. If there is a serious problem, we will of course do everything to help you move. But, generally, if you want to change you must provide 4 weeks' notice to our homestay coordinator.
QCan I use the laundry facilities?A
Yes, you can use the laundry facilities. Host families will give you times when you can do laundry. The student house allows laundry except for early in the morning and late at night. Please respect these times.
