Undergraduate Academic Foundations Program (UAFP)
The UAFP (Undergraduate Academic Foundations Program) at IH Vancouver is designed to equip non-native English speakers for successful entry into undergraduate studies. This comprehensive program spans eight months, integrating language and academic courses to enhance communication and collaboration skills. With a focus on literacy and critical thinking, students gain confidence in spoken English. The program includes exploration of international research, participation in collaborative projects, and learning from a diverse faculty. Upon successfully completing each course with a grade of 70% or higher or a Pass, students earn the UAFP certificate.
What is a Undergraduate Academic Foundations Program (UAFP)
An Undergraduate Academic Foundations Program – UAFP is a university curriculum focusing on essential academic skills like mathematics, English, critical thinking, and study habits. It aims to bridge gaps in students’ preparation, ensuring a solid foundation for success in their chosen degree programs by enhancing adaptability to college life and refining communication skills. Participation may be required based on academic background or test scores.

Program Schedule
Monday to Friday – 8:50 am to 3:2o pm
*This program does not require approval by the Private Training Institutions Branch (PTIB) of the Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills.
Grade 12 graduation, or equivalent.
Minimum English language proficiency as demonstrated by submitting one of:
- IELTS (academic) a minimum of 5.0 overall
- TOEFL iBT 60 or higher
- Pearson PTE Academic 44 or higher
- CAEL 40 or higher
- Cambridge B2 First Pass
- English 12 with C+ or higher
- Minimum B1+ (55+)
or
Completion of IH Level 5 Mid Intermediate (B1.2) or EAP Level 1 with a minimum
average of 75%
