Master's Academic Foundations Program (MAFP)
IH Vancouver’s Master’s Academic Foundations Program (MAFP) program readies non-native English speakers for graduate studies in an eight-month course. It blends language and academic courses, fostering effective communication and collaboration skills. Emphasizing literacy and critical thinking, the program boosts confidence in spoken English. Students explore international research, engage in collaborative projects, and learn from global faculty. Successful completion of each course, with a 70% or higher grade or a Pass, earns them the MAFP certificate.

A Master’s Academic Foundations Program, often abbreviated as MAFP, is an educational initiative designed to prepare students for success in a master’s degree program. This program is particularly beneficial for students who may have a non-traditional academic background or need to strengthen their foundational skills before entering a master’s program.
The Master’s Academic Foundations Program typically includes courses that cover essential academic skills, such as research methodologies, critical thinking, academic writing, and quantitative analysis. It aims to ensure that students have the necessary academic foundation to excel in their chosen master’s program.

Undergraduate degree from a recognized post-seconday program (as evaluated
through ICES or equivalent recognition body)
Minimum English language proficiency as demonstrated by submitting one of:
- IELTS (academic) a minimum of 6.0 overall, with no band below 5.5
- TOEFL iBT 75 or higher
- Pearson PTE Academic 50 or higher
- CAEL 50 or higher
- Cambridge C1 Advanced Pass or higher, or B2 First with a B Pass or higher
- English 12 with a B pass or higher
- Minimum B1+ (55+)
or
Completion of IH Level 6 Upper Intermediate (B2) or EAP Level 2 with a minimum
average of 75%
