International Experience Canada (IEC) Program

The International Experience Canada (IEC) program facilitates international work and travel experiences for young Canadians and foreign nationals.  As of 2024, Languages Canada is a designated Recognized Organization (RO) of the Government of Canada’s International Experience Canada (IEC) program. IH Vancouver has partnered with Languages Canada, as one of only eight institutions offering this unique work-study program for young people.

IEC Program Details

The LC Consortium offers access to the IEC Working Holiday (work and travel for up to two year) open work permit, combined with a unique package that includes:

  • A minimum of 12 weeks of intensive English language study.
  • A range of employment preparation and placement supports, including CV writing, interview coaching, job fairs and pre-screened work placements.
  • Optional add-on services include providing accommodations (e.g. homestay placement), social and cultural excursions, transportation, and tours to Canadian postsecondary institutions.

IEC Program Requirements

  • Valid for young people aged 18 to 35 years old
  • Country or territory of citizenship has a Youth Mobility Agreement (YMA) with Canada – check here
  • Must have a minimum of CAD $2,500 to cover initial expenses in Canada
  • A round-trip ticket or proof of sufficient funds to cover departure
  • Participation in a minimum 12-week ESL study program
